From Chemistry Major to Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT)

“I didn’t choose a ‘hot’ major; I chose an ‘essential’ one. I don’t need to stand out; I just want to be useful.” These are the sincere sentiments of Phan Ngoc Cat Tuong, a former Chemistry major from Vi Thanh Gifted High School. Currently, Tuong is a sophomore majoring in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT). Notably, Tuong’s journey to HUIT was initiated through the direct admission method—a pivotal decision supported by her mother, who provided her with valuable information about the university. This support laid a solid foundation for Tuong to pursue her passion in this high-potential field.

When she first began researching the Logistics industry, she thought it was merely about transportation and warehousing. However, after a consultation via the university’s admission fanpage, HUIT faculty explained: “Logistics is not just about moving goods; it is the art of optimizing the flow of products, services, and information.” This perspective made her realize how practical the major is and how perfectly it aligns with her logical mindset.

She decided to choose HUIT because the curriculum is designed for practical application, featuring close industry ties and clear career prospects upon graduation. “I chose HUIT because here, Logistics is more than just theory,” Cat Tuong shared.

“Hearing the word ‘Logistics’ immediately brings to mind warehouses, goods, and system management... so facilities are very important,” Tuong said. At HUIT, Logistics students study in warehouse management simulation rooms, specialized computer labs for supply chain management, and regularly practice with professional software such as ERP, SCM, and WMS. The digital library, group study areas, and modern lecture halls also help students access knowledge easily.

“Studying at HUIT, I learn from faculty who have worked in the Logistics industry, so the lectures are always filled with real-world examples.” Tuong noted that the curriculum includes not only theory but also projects such as building supply chains for simulated businesses and planning multimodal transport. What impressed Tuong most are the observation and internship programs starting as early as the second and third years, which make her feel she is learning to truly work.

Although Logistics is not a “flashy” major like IT or Digital Media, Cat Tuong still sees it as a field of resilience and strategy. “A Logistics professional must anticipate problems, plan in detail, and react flexibly.” This helps Tuong sharpen her systematic thinking and scientific working style.

Cat Tuong believes she can eventually work for distribution corporations, multinational companies, or manage supply chains for e-commerce platforms. “Most importantly, HUIT has given me a solid foundation to start that journey.”

Finally, Tuong wanted to send a message to 12th graders: “If you want to study a hot major with reasonable tuition fees, choose HUIT. You don't need the pressure of top-tier schools; what matters is that upon graduation, besides a degree, you possess the skills to compete with any rival.”

From a Chemistry student who loves order and logic, Phan Ngoc Cat Tuong is now a Logistics student passionate about supply chain diagrams and shipping maps. Tuong’s story is a vivid testament to choosing a path with reason and pursuing it with passion within a practical training environment like HUIT.
